Maternity Figure – Wood – Fante – Ghana

Seated female figures were found in shrines or as part of popular drum ensembles among the Fante known as Ntan or Ompe. These sculpted maternity figures are prominent parts of the drum stand where large drums leaning on their sides are supported on elevated platforms with sculptures attached to them such as these female figures.

Good condition with traces of wear and tear. The feet seeme to be restored.
