Great hut`s panel from the Chokwe tribe of DR Congo. The mask is nicely carved on a wooden panel. Typically, it has a face with down-cast eyes, a triangular nose and a protruding mouth which bears teeth. Good condition with a beautiful aged patina. There is a small hole in the wood on the right side of the face.
The Chokwe carve several items that they use to communicate with the spirits during rituals.
The Chokwe believe that the spirits of their ancestors can positively or negatively influence the quality of their lives.
